      Hi,

In the 1930 U.S. Census for Pittston, PA (Luzerne Co.) at 165 Center St., there is this entry:

      Name Age
Anthony Spudis, 38 (born around 1892 in Pennsylvania), a miner
Rose Spudis, 38 (also born in Pennsylvania)
Joseph Spudis, 16, son, born in PA
Mary Spudis, 14, daughter, born in PA
Genevieve Spudis, 12, daughter born in PA

The parents were married at age 22 (around 1914).

On the same page, living at 159 Center Street, were the following:

Charles Yancowski, 45, born in Lithuania, arrived in the U.S. in 1901
Elizabeth, wife, 56, also born in Lithuania, arrived in 1900
John Spudis, stepson of Charles, 35, born in Pennsylvania, whose parents were born in Lithuania, working for a coal company
Della Spudis, stepdaughter of Charles, 26, born in Connecticut
John Spudis, 6, grandson, born in PA
Ruth Spudis, 2 and 6 months, granddaughter, born in PA
Leo Spudis, 1, grandson, born in PA

I found a WWI draft registration for Anthony Spudis, born June 16, 1890, in Russia [he wrote for the town where he was born "don't know."]. What we call Lithuania today was until 1918 simply a part of Russia. He was living at 159 Center St., in Pittston, PA.

      John Peters
