Hi, I have made a major dent in my family geneology, but continue to get stumped with one side of the family and I think it has to do with the spelling of the surname. My grandfather's surname was Anthony Volinskus II, while his brother's name was Joseph Valinskus. I know that my family resided in the Suffield area, then Waterbury, and Windsor, CT. Whereever I look up Lithuanian geneology, I can never find a name that comes close to these. Can anyone help? Thanks if you can. I am very interested in going further with this project, but this has been a stumbling block on this side of the family.
Masculine form of Lithuanian family name may be Mecajus or Mecajis or Mecajas. I did not find any of these surnames in Lithuanian telephone directory. However I found 2 surnames Mec^ajus (only turn an accent mark ^ upside down and put it on the top of letter c, surname sounds similar to "Metshayus").

I am looking for my husbands family. They are from the Chicago area. His mother was Elaine Therese Kachinskas. His grandfather, John Thomas Kachinskas, was born in Chicago to Julius Kachinskas and Anele Sinauskas. We don't know if Julius and Anele were immigrants or if they were born here. The information I am seeking is this: two of my husband's uncles migrated to the US during the early part of the 20th century, but the family in Lithuania lost contact with them. Their names could be Pranas and Antanas. If there are any of their descendants out there, please respond! I am trying to document the family genealogy. The family lived near Garliava in Lithuania.

Am seeking information on Vincent Driggott (or Drigot) . He came to the US in 1907 from Joniskis and settled in Chicago. He was married to Anelia Chivala. He died 1 Sept 1930. Can anyone help?
There are some families having surnames Drigotas and living in Lithuania now. Use Lithuanian telephone directory http://telefonai.takas.lt/simple_search.asp
Enter the beginning of surname, i.e. Drigot in Pavarde window, click on Pirmyn button and wait for results. All possible surnames with begginings Drigot will come up. (Minimum 3 symbols required). You may select a "Joniskio raj" in Vietove window and figure 20 in "Rodyti po" window.

We know that part of the family emigrated from Lithuania in the early 1900's and that they were split between Canada, the USA and our branch settled in a small mining village in Scotland called Stoneyburn. Our family name was changed by the authorities when the family arrived in the UK and they were given the surname Smith which we have today.
I understand that, although, to the best of my knowledge, there are no remaining Szukis's in the UK there remains family in the USA and Canada.
Is there anyone out there that has any information on where in Lithuania the family originated from or any other information?
How is the hunt going for Szukis ancestry, I was just talking with"Ernst Schukies" and he also was wondering how your doing. Ernst found a "Schukis" back in Lithuania @ the 1500's for me a little while ago but, so far I haven't been able to get a hold on any of my direct line of Schukis any further back than my Grandfather it seems once you have to get to "Lithuania" for any added info there's quite a road-block in translation or information. I hope all is well with you and that your search is doing better than mine is at the moment. If you get a chance drop a line it'll be good to keep in touch.

Grandfather is buried in St. Casimirs cemetery. can't find any other history other than names of Joseph William Kadzewick (grandfather) Greatgrandfather was William Joseph Kadzewick. Looking for information on Surnames Amon or Bauer, both believed to be from Lithaunia, but not for sure. Have a possible match on the ellis island site that list place of residence as Frouk Sarateiw, would have arrived NY in 1902. Can anyone verify any of this information?
I am doing a little research on my Family name. My Grandfather was Jokymas J. Milius and it (the internet) said that my great grandfather's name was Jonas Milius, and his wife (my great grandmother) was Anete Cesniute. My grandfather was born in Lithuania but his parents did not come to the U.S., from what I understand. My Grandfather married my Grandmother, Alice Crosby on 6/27/23 and she was 22 years old at the time of marriage. They were married in Waterbury, Connecticut. I assume he was around the same age. That's all I know. Do any of these names ring a bell for anyone out there? If they do please email me.
My Dad,s name was also Johnas, and he came from Lithuania at the turn of the century. I can,t locate anything about him, not in Ellis I. records, or on the internet. I just read about this website in the Lithuanian Heritage magazine today. Now I'm in the hunt. All I know about his siblings are a brother Lawrence(Rollas???)and a sister Rose.
VEIVERIS, MITKUS & KAVALIAUSKAS - Is there anybody out there?
by
My grandfather is Kazys Veiveris, b. 1893 in Lithuania and my grandmother is Marijona Mitkus, b. 1899. They came to Toronto, Canada in the late 1920's. My grandmother's parents are Jurgis Mitkus and Constancija Kavaliauskas. I know that my grandmother wrote to relatives in Pennsylvania, but I don't know how they were related. Also, my grandfather's birthplace on immigration records is Cistibunukaimas. Does anyone know where this is in Lithuania? If anyone recognizes these names and could give me any information, I would greatly appreciate it.
I should have mentioned that I know that he was from the Marijampole region, but every map that I have looked at doesn't seem to have this village. On his sister's papers it is Cystos-Budos Kaimas, Sasnavos Valscio, Marijampole Apskriti. Apparently it still exists, but I can't find it.
Hi. If you get into the jewishgen.org site and look up the All Lithuania Database - then find the surname you're looking for - you'll eventually find the Marijampole Vital records. There's also a sizeable page of sites under this name for this region. I didn't even know it was a region until I looked it up
which helps me in my own research. Good hunting.
Leopold Josepayt emigrated to US sometime before or during WW1. He served in the war, then married Katherine Duphans, of Engers,Germany. He settled in Phila,Pa,as did his brother, August. His sister, Lydia(Latvaitis)lived in Montreal. My grandparents seldom spoke of their early life, and my father did not remember much-he was born in Engers, and came to US at an early age. I always thought my grandfather was German-recently learned he was born in Lithuania.Any information about this name would be appreciated.
Have found a Kopel Altman who survived Auschwitz- put on the Lithuania Survivors List 1946. If he is the same man he went to New York and died there in 1975. Anyone out there with more information, relatives and
family friends?
Thanks for this. Yes I've found a KOPPEL ALTMAN on the Social Security - d.1972 in NY. I have to try and find more information. It's the only listing for this name I've found anywhere except for the Lithuanian Survivors List 1946. Have you any other ideas - I'd appreciate them.
Hi everyone!
This is a shot in the dark, admittedly, but let me describe my situation to you.
I'm 38 and looking for relatives before my great-grandfather, who emigrated from Lithuania in app. 1905-08. He made a stopover in Scotland or England where he had his name changed to Bealles from Birgelis, or something similar. They landed in Boston, apparently, and soon left for Pittsburgh.
He and his son, my grandfather, operated a gas station on West Carson Avenue in Pittsburgh, PA, called Bealles Esso/Exxon Service from 1925 until 1978.
My grandmother's maiden name was Miciekas and she had a maternal grandfather named Grzauskas who fought for the U.S. in World War I.
The above is all I know. My goal is to find relatives in Lithuania. Does anybody have any advice on how to find existing relatives in Lithuania and to find out what exactly my great-grandfather's name was before he changed it? There remain several Bealles' in the Pittburgh area and teh rest of us few are scattered in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan and Alaska.
Any help would be appreciated!

Hello Sharla,
I am doing some research on the Buivydas family of whom i am a member. Could u please forward me with any information about him and how I could contact him.
Bumblauskas is spelled absolutely correct and it is the obviously Lithuanian surname.
The surname comes from the Polish (Bumblowski), but it doesn't mean certainly the Polish origin of the family.
There are several variants of this surname: Bumblauskis, Bumbliauskis, Bumbliauskas, although Bumblauskas is most common of them.

Hello--glad to find you once again. Early morning, Feb 7, 04 at 1:25AM, I could not sleep and signed online. For some reason I decided to do a "Levanovitch" search.
We had emailed each other before, under my other screen name, Dentalwisd.
My father is Alex Levanovitch of Gairdville, Pa. He is well after falling off of a latter ths past summer. After recovering, he was throughly examined by a Doctor and we were told he had suffered a mild heart attack. He looks a bit weak these days which I guess is to be expected. He will turn 79 years of age this summer.
How is your search progressing?
Please respond.
Sincerely,
Debbie Levanovitch
