Our overall rank is lower because we actually are so much better than the other countries that many "sure deaths" in other countries such as premature births, disabled births, etc are recorded as live births in this country seeing as our medical system can have a good chance to save those lives. Ergo, one reason why our expensives are highest.
We also spend more money than other countries on welfare, defense, education, foreign aid, charitable contributions, etc.
Duh... We are the richest, most successful country in the history of mankind. So, why wouldnt we also spend more than others on healthcare?
We also have the highest rates of survival for those diagnosed with breast or prostrate cancer, other cancers, and a myriad of many other diseases that are usually a death sentence in most of those other countries you tout.
Finally, no one, repeat no one, is refused access to our finest in health care in this country regardless of their economic standing. Heck, we even pay for countless illegal immigrants. How many of those other countries you tout do the same?
