Response to Re: Republicans and Health Insurance Reform |
| Wars are expensive. We have spent a lot in blood and treasure. But spending on Irag will end. Likewise Afghanistan (which Obama has called a war of necessity). But entitlement programs go on in perpetuity.
Plus, let's keep costs in perspective: The unfunded liabilities for Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security are $100 trillion. In contrast, the total cost for both wars is something like $975 billion. So war costs are less than 1% of the liabilities attached to the "big three" entitlement programs. Make sure that sinks in -- the combined costs for the Iraq and Afghanistan Wars are less than 1% of the unfunded liabilities of Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security. And that doesn't include Obamacare.
