Under the White Houses budget proposal aimed at reducing the deficit, major carriers, their passengers, business jets and airports would be forced to pay up to $32 billion in new air traffic and security fees during the next 10 years, said Reuters.
A4A said the White Houses proposal would triple the aviation security tax in the next fives years to $7.50 for each one-way trip in 2018, resulting in an $18 billion government windfall that would not be used on aviation security programs. The proposal also seeks to add a new $100 per flight tax with a portion of those proceeds going toward deficit reduction.
Airline customers today pay about $61 in taxes on a typical $300 ticket, rates higher than alcohol and tobacco, products that are taxed to discourage use, the trade group said.
Way to go O. We sure don't want another industry to succeed, do we.
