T-SPLOST just another tax which won't accomplish anything except put $$ into others hands

July 26 2012 at 10:29 AM

Metro Atlanta road builders have a lot riding on Tuesdays transportation tax vote and have launched an all-out push to get it passed.

Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed and Georgia Gov. Nathan Deal to appear together Monday, push for T-SPLOST
Businesses push sales tax
Road builders look for T-SPLOST boost
Environmental groups tout support for T-SPLOST
Latin American Chamber supports T-SPLOST
T-SPLOST projects costs include maintenance as well as construction
If it passes, leaders in the hard-hit industry estimate work that springs from the 157-project referendum will eclipse work done for the 1996 Olympics. If it fails, one of the areas largest road builders already has warned employees of layoffs.

The head of Marietta-based C.W. Matthews Contracting, which already has lost 700 jobs in the last three years, recently warned its 1,300 workers in an in-house newsletter to imagine how much tougher times will become if this referendum does not pass.

If this fails, there could be additional layoffs, more so than weve seen in the last several years, President and Chief Executive Bill Hammack told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

So all of us should pay an additional sales tax on everything to help this company stay in business? Looks like another bailout opportunity to me. I will vote for it as soon as they remove the toll booth on 400. They said that was just to pay for the 400 project. Well it is paid for but the toll still remains.
