It is a skewed perception of the truth.

At least from my perspective. He has skewed reality to make it a negative stigma to be on food stamps. Very few want to be on food stamps, but have few choices when it comes to feeding their family. You and others act like it is easy to fend for yourself in this day and age. The role of a civilized society is to protect the poor and those who can't for whatever reason (laid off, mentally ill, disability, etc). Sure there are those who abuse the system, but that is the case in every aspect of life. There are rich who abuse the system and they "steal" plenty. Just because there is a system that provides these services doesn't mean those who set them up are trying to "enslave" them. Are there politicians who illegally benefit from these programs? Yes, but they are just like the other abusers in all systems. The key is how we manage it so the abuses are minimal. You will NEVER eliminate all abuse. There is always a way to manipulate the system, because no system is perfect. Capitalism is not perfect, just the best way right now to set up an economic system. Government is not perfect, but the one we have is best alternative out there. Who and how they run it will not be perfect. It wasn't with the previous Presidents and it won't be with future Presidents. But for this guy to spin the reality like he has, does nothing other than to stigmatize ALL those on welfare and make many others hate them for it.
