While I agree, why then does each party seem to elect fringe people to leadership positions? Pelosi, Reed, DeLay, Armie and people like that? That has always puzzled me. If you think of the political spectrum as a number line, with 0% at the far left and 100% at the far right, think of how much good might get accomplished if the Dems elected leadership who were at say 35% and the Reps elected leadership at say 65%. But no, that does not happen. Dems elect leaders at 10% or 15%, and Reps elect leaders at 85% or 90%, and thus very little ever gets accomplished. One problem is that the "big middle" spends most of its time going about its business, and less time yelling and screaming.
