he's put Obama in an uncomfortable position.
While campaigning he bashed Bush for taking his eye off the ball and not fighting the "right" war in Afghanistan. This resonated with dems not because they thought that was true, but because it was another way to Bash Bush.
Six months ago he again said this was an important war and that AlQaeda was in Afghanistan planning attacks on us and planning to get their hands on the Paks nuclear arsenal.
Now McChrystal is telling him the Afghan effort will fail if he doesn't ante up. But Dems are basically pacifist and isolationists and won't back him in sending more troops and spending more money.
So now the WH has to figure a way to spin out of this corner and silence - and contradict McChrystal..They already have Hillary spinning the story that McChrystal's evaluation doesn't match with that of numerous intelligence sources... |
