How the Left thinks

November 10 2010 at 2:58 PM
South Paw

from Facebook, from one of my left-leaning acquaintance's links

Be part of a literary movement. Literally. They did this to Tony Blair's book and I think we should do the same here. Subversively move George W. Bush's memoir "Decision Points" to the crime section ...

Should the right do the same? Use the Alinsky methods (isolate, demonize) toward those on the left? Pelosi? Reid? Obama?

No that is how some on the left think. Your post is how SOME on the right think.

November 10 2010, 3:32 PM

Spread half truths as much as possible and hope it sticks. The far right have been doing that for decades and the likes of Hannity and Rush perpetuate it to the highest degree. Granted, in both cases it is SOME, but as we have seen and will continue to see they can be very divisive no matter the numbers who actually support it.

keep it in context. this was about grass-roots on the left, not those in the center, or center-left.

Hannity and Rush are entertainment and commentators. Not a fan of either, but please expose some for their half-truths (not items repeated from other sources, with that fact acknowledged). Have either suggested going to book stores and moving books? I was on WSB last night listening to Herman. After his show, Savage was on. A caller reported that Savages book was being put in trash cans at his local book store, by someone who worked there. Where does the left get the idea that causing disruptions for retailers is their right?

How do you know it is someone from the left? Did you see them do it?

It could be anyone. Not everyone who is a republican likes all republicans or their message.

Hannity / Limbaugh

November 11 2010, 6:23 AM

I hear some of you moon bats play this card from time to time. "Half Truth's" / "Lies" and so on are screamed from the mountain tops by Deomcrats and Liberals when these guys express their "OPINIONS" about a subject. I have listened to these guy's for years now. I have not always been in 100% agreement with them on every issue, but I will say this; when they have been wrong (very few occasions), they have ALWAYS corrected their mistakes and admitted to them.

Here is the challenge: Name one thing, ANYTHING, where either of these two have intentionally lied or reported half truth's or facts. Prove it. Put your money where your mouth is and prove your point. I am waging you can't do it.

This is something the Left are masters at and are not ashamed of, LYING. In FACT, they are proud of it and it's obvious they still have a few myrmidons that follow and lean on everything they say.

LMAO!!!

They rarely if ever admitt a lie or misrepresentation of the facts.

November 11 2010, 9:54 AM

But since you asked. Hannity said 3,000 people went with Obama on his trip to India. Not true and he never corrected it. Said they spent $200 million per day and that they sent 34 warships to protect him. Not true and never corrected it. Rush did the same. Both talked about Obama not being a documented citizen and to my knowledge never corrected that fact. Rush slammed others for drug abuse and when confronted with his own problem, denied it. He never actually apologized for his lie. Hannity is notriouus for making "question" statements, much like FOX news does in those by lines at the bottom of the screen. Something like "Obama not a US citizen??" They hide behind the question mark as if by asking in a question form it makes it ok and not a accusation. It is calculated and most read it as a fact.

Lie #1

"But since you asked. Hannity said 3,000 people went with Obama on his trip to India. Not true and he never corrected it. Said they spent $200 million per day and that they sent 34 warships to protect him. Not true and never corrected it."

HANNITY: All right, but you know, Kate, if you're going to do something controversial, explain it to the American people. He promised transparency, didn't he?

KATE OBENSHAIN, YOUNG AMERICA'S FOUNDATION: Yes, we haven't seen any transparency. Where are those C-SPAN hearings being televised live?

No, this is a perfect illustration of what the voters expressed such disgust with on Tuesday. Just this massive excess. Something like 3,000 people are reportedly in his entourage.

HANNITY: But wait, that's what the report is. We can't get any confirmation. That's the point.

http://www.foxnews.com/on-air/hannity/transcript/message-obama039s-extravagant-asia-trip-debate

Lie #2

"Rush did the same. Both talked about Obama not being a documented citizen and to my knowledge never corrected that fact."

That's right, they TALKED.

Limbaugh: "Barack Obama has yet to have to prove that he's a citizen. All he has to do is show a birth certificate. He has yet to have to prove he's a citizen. I have to show them 14 different ways where the h--- I am every day of the year for three years."

http://www.wnd.com/index.php?fa=PAGE.printable&pageId=104595

"Rush slammed others for drug abuse and when confronted with his own problem, denied it. He never actually apologized for his lie."

He admitted his addiction in 2003.
http://www.cnn.com/2003/SHOWBIZ/10/10/rush.limbaugh/

"He has admitted being addicted to pain medications taken for back trouble and took a five-week leave from his broadcasting duties in 2003 to enter a rehabilitation program.
Limbaugh's leave of absence came after the National Enquirer reported that his use of painkillers was under investigation by Florida authorities. The story was based partly on an account of a former housekeeper at his estate.
Once back on the air, he said he was "powerless" to overcome his drug addiction without professional help, but vowed not to turn into "a linguine-spined liberal."

If you are truley that gullible; there is no hope for you. You are the classic Liberal that takes FACTS completely out of context to fit your own Liberal interpretation.

"You can't handle the truth!!!"

It's odd. I am a pretty devout Republican, and I haven't listened to Limbaugh in several years (I have this inconvenience during the midday called a JOB), and may watch Hannity once or twice a year, at most. Yet this liberal Dem seems to know everyword that either of them says. What's wrong with this picture?

It's called exploring different points of view.

November 12 2010, 4:24 PM

Unfortunately there are many conservatives who watch and live by the words of Hannity and Rush, so it makes sense to try and understand why. Only a fool would ignore other points of view, especially when that point of view tries to distort and misrepresent the facts of others. You don't go into battle without knowing your enemy. You don't compete in business with knowing your competition. You don't compete on the playing field without knowing something about your opponent.

how do you know "what many conservatives watch and live by"?

November 17 2010, 1:20 PM

just because they arrive at different determinations (from yours) of what's good and right doesn't mean they didn't explore different points of view

you liberals seem to think your point of view is right, no matter what. and that if the public would just listen to you (and presumably, ignore those evil, ignorant, pied-piper hate-mongers like Limbaugh and Hannity) that they would necessarily agree with you and all would be right with the world

the level of intolerance among liberals for views different from their own is astounding. i understand why intelligent and politically aware people have drawn comparisons between liberals and fascists.

People like Hannity and Rush are experts doing the same thing

November 14 2010, 6:37 PM

the Nazi's did in WWII. Propaganda machine is alive and well with the extremists on both sides of the aisle. 90% of Americans are moderates and find themselves voting for the lesser of two evils. Pretty sad state of affairs for this country. Many talented people never step up to serve because the trash in the system will try to vilify them by any means possible if they happen to disagree with their point of view. Read - stop the money train....

'the Nazi's did in WWII'

Put down the crack pipe and pick up the history books. The Nazi Party was a nationalist - cult - racist - the list goes on - movement that convinced the people to follow them to hell, without asking why. And, they were socialists but only for the master race.

At least you were honest in saying it was written by a Liberal.

Straight forward? No Political spin?

You are kidding right? I am sorry to say you seem to be another classic Liberal that will go to the ends of the earth to convince people of something other than the truth or of some Liberals spin on facts in general.

You have clearly not read any of the information posted.

November 18 2010, 2:55 PM

For you to be so blinded by your hatred of a "liberal" speaks clearly to your myopic point of view. Take the time to "read" and you might learn something. The right and the left have much to offer each other since the majority have very similar views. It is the extreme on either end that skew the dialogue and try to block a mutually beneficial solution. Of course the extrmes also created change by bringing many things to the forefront and kickstarted change.... It is how we temper those views that allows us to move forward for the betterment of everyone, not just the few. If we held to the conservative beliefs of past times we would still think the earth was flat, that the sun revolved around the earth, be subjects of the monarchy, have slavery, etc, etc. Progressive thinking enlightened the closed minded to the realities of what is and what should be.

"Progressive thinking enlightened the closed minded to the realities of what is and what should be."

of course "progressive thinking" has also given us Hitler's march through Europe and mass genocide, Stalin's Soviet Union, the AIDS epidemic, an epidemic of both unwed mothers AND abortions, forced integration of schools, the US Department of Education, use of sterilization and lobotomies to "treat" the mentally ill, banning of school prayer and Christmas decorations, taxpayer subsidies for electric cars and ethanol...

"the taxpayer subsidies for anything that reduces pollution and lessens the grip by big oil"

taxpayer subsidies for electric cars and ethanol have not and will not 1) reduce pollution, or 2) lessen the "grip of big oil"

for you to make comments like that demonstrates how woefuly ignorant you are on the subject of "alternative" fuels, and how you swallow the nonsense fed to you by the likes of MoveOn, DailyKos, etc

and BTW, ALL the items I mentioned in the previous post were the ideas of, or results of actions purposely taken by, people who labeled themselves as Progressives.

You Can't Hide Your Affiliations Anymore

November 19 2010, 6:23 AM

"For you to be so blinded by your hatred of a "liberal" speaks clearly to your myopic point of view. Take the time to "read" and you might learn something."

The fact of the matter is we/I have read what you Liberal have written, listened intently to what you have said and WE ARE'NT BUYING IT ANYMORE. GET IT?

"The right and the left have much to offer each other since the majority have very similar views."

30 or 40 years this statement may have had SOME truth to it.

"It is the extreme on either end that skew the dialogue and try to block a mutually beneficial solution. Of course the extrmes also created change by bringing many things to the forefront and kickstarted change...."

AWWWWWEEEE, there's that nice word "change" again. Well, "change" has occurred. It happened in 2008 and the majority of Americans have now decided they want their money back (hence Nov-02-2010).

"It is how we temper those views that allows us to move forward for the betterment of everyone, not just the few."

You have got to be one of these people that believe: "From each according to his ability, to each according to his need".

"If we held to the conservative beliefs of past times we would still think the earth was flat, that the sun revolved around the earth, be subjects of the monarchy, have slavery, etc, etc."

You need to get out more. By the way, the slavery/race card has played to the point it is now null and void. So, say it, scream it, whatever, it doesn't hold water. It is nothing more than a token speaking point for those that can not argue their own points and back them up with any meaningful facts.

"Progressive thinking enlightened the closed minded to the realities of what is and what should be."

Progressive, Socialist, Marxist, Communist, the "enlightenment" crowd, etc. ect. are all one in the same now. You can not hide it anymore.

I truly feel sorry for you. You speak of intelligence and enlightenment

November 19 2010, 11:45 AM

as if they are dirty words or evil aspirations. Intelligence and enlightenment are what man continues to strive for. That has been the on-going mission of man since we came into existence. We are all flawed in our endeavors to find a better way and only together can we achieve it. You discard the dialogue because you believe your position to be absolutely right and refuse to acknowledge that the left may be right on a number of things.

You flippantly dismiss the fact that we have a lot offer each other just shows you have no intention of actually solving our countries or the worlds problems. You speak out of both sides of your mouth. Do you support the constitution or not?

If you believe that we are just on this planet for the betterment of a few then I truly feel sorry for you and anyone related to you. My comment has nothing to do with a communistic or socialist agenda. It has to do with giving everyone the chance to succeed in a civilized manner, not by the rule of nature where only the strong survive. We as a species are beyond that and will continue to evolve to the point where that thinking disappears into history where it belongs.

For you to discard the slavery comment as "a token speaking point" clearly defines you as ignorant. Slavery has to be the most abhorrent thing on this planet and it has happened throughout history. It has to be the one catalyst for unrest that hinders the growth of man to become more than just an animal killing and enslaving others for personal gain. You cannot, in any way, discount the fact that it is wrong. You also pick out just one example to make your point. I guess the other ones are just minor insignificant moments or liberal fluff. They were momentous moments in history that changed (omg there it is again) the direction of thought on this planet. Much like the slavery issue.

You also focus on the word "change" and act like it is some vile liberal mantra to be mocked at every mention. Much like FOX who repeat a word or slogan until it becomes associated with something bad for the other party. Republicans have campaigned using the word change for decades, just as other party candidates have done.

You need to take some time and think about the positive, and what we have in common rather than what separates us. It will lead to better solution and a better life for all of us.

opportunity vs guarantees

November 19 2010, 11:59 AM

"It has to do with giving everyone the chance to succeed in a civilized manner, not by the rule of nature where only the strong survive."

However you must agree that liberals/progressives tend to believe that the OUTCOME should be the same for everyone, rather than that the OPPORTUNITY should be the same for everyone. And that it's government's role to ensure it, by coercion, manipulation and confiscation if necessary.

I do not agree because not ALL Liberals feel that way.

November 19 2010, 2:12 PM

Just as ALL Republicans do not subscribe to every party platform issue. The world is not black and white as some would like it to be. We see examples on a regular basis that reflect flaws in all of us. Liberals that speak of equality yet line their pockets with ill gotten gain. Republicans that soap box about issues and then find themselves guilty of what they condemn. The hypocrisy is sad to see, but comes as a result of focusing on the differences and not the similarities. Teams succeed when they work together. The goal is to win the game. The strategy is how to do that as a team. If one player thinks they are above the rest then failure is the most likely outcome. A civilized society is such when they take care of the weakest in that society. You will always have those that want and yet do nothing for it, just as you will have those that take and never give. Life is a balancing act. Too much one way or the other and life falters. That is a principle that applies to everything we come in contact with. Who cares about the mosquito? It is a pest to us and we try to eradicate them as much as possible. If we go too far and eradicate them all then those species that depend on them for food will be eradicated and so on. It starts with something so simple and seemingly insignificant but it can have a huge effect on more complex and very significant things like the survival of the human race. We are all interconnected, everything on this planet. Just because it does not directly impact you is no reason to ignore it or fight it. Some liberals are ridiculed for wanting to protect the environment (environmental wackos) yet without them we would continue to see sewage dumped indiscriminately into our water supply. Oh, but we have so much water, a little pollution will not be a problem. No the problem is that some will believe that and continue to pollute and if not regulated to stop it will grow and the problem becomes worse, all in the pursuit of a profit. Which comes back to how do we survive together and allow the human spirit to grow and express themselves without some dictating who gets that chance and who doesn't and how they get to do it. It's called balance and we seem unable to come to the realization.

You are dead wrong if you think liberals alone have concerns about environmental pollution, or that without them (liberals) nothing would be done about it.
