Response to Do antibiotics give squitty poos..

... enquire about giving Babs the meds orally.
Apart from making you feel bad, it is clearly stressing Babs out - the last thing an already sick rattie needs.
As her system is probably infused with the meds, any need for a 'quick fix' has probably diminished.
It would be nice if the rest of the course could be given orally.
As I said before, it might simply be a case of giving the injectable form you have.

Squitty poops - that's good advice you've had about bio yoghurt (aka 'live' yoghurt.)

When ratties are on antibiotics, then as well as killing off the nasty bacteria that are making them unwell, antibiotics can also effect good bacteria which are meant to be in the gut and which aid digestion.
Live yoghurt helps provide replacement good bacteria.

I'm sure you know, but just to clarify, we're not talking about 'natural' yoghurt!
Bio yoghurt is available in the dairy cabinets in our local Tesco and Safeway, so I'm sure you'll be able to get a tub easily enough.

It sounds like you're dealing with a lot of runny poop which, as happens with humans, can mean too much fluid is being lost and could lead to dehydration.
I'd suggest you carry out the pinch test I posted about earlier, to monitor for this.

Paul
