Very interesting how the holiday evolved, eh? The founders must be turning in their graves...

Hallmark Holidays!

May 7 2007, 7:38 AM

We really don't do much about them in my house. My MIL wants the day to be all about her (while my SIL wants the day to be about how much she sacrifices for her mom even though she's a mother herself. . .) My Mom just wants a call, maybe homemade cards from the girls (I send her flowers anyway.) I just want to not have everyone leave so much of a mess around for one single day. Hasn't happened yet, but at least they try. And this year, the NJPCG meeting is on Mother's Day, and that seems like a fine celebration to me.

I like to go out for supper...

May 8 2007, 9:29 AM

but then, I like any excuse to do that

I'm thinking about going to the guild meeting, but I'm not sure how well that will go over around here. I think they'd like me to be home. I may go for a little while, unless Neil and the boys come up with some fun alternative plan. Last year we went to Lambertville, which was nice. I'd have liked to go to New Hope, too, but the kids got cranky and sapped all the fun out of it for me. I think New Hope has to be a kid-free trip with a few like-minded friends, as opposed to a family outing with a husband who's only going because he knows you like it, and two energetic little boys who'd rather be running around screaming at home in the back yard

I bought some handmade cards on etsy that I plan to send to all of the mothers in our lives. And I guess I have to squeeze in a visit somewhere, too, but at this particular moment, I'm not really in the mood for that. I used to host a "Mother's Day Dessert" but I'm feeling selfish this year - I want to do what I want to do, and that doesn't involve cleaning the house and baking a cake.

I really shouldn't make (or avoid) any plans while I'm feeling grouchy, LOL!

Back Yard Dwellers

One of my fav Mother's days was spent alone...........m

May 13 2007, 11:57 AM

T wanted to go visit his parents & I had a book party Friday night (when I repped Usborne books), so I sent him w/ the kids. He felt bad leaving me alone, but it was Fabulous!!! I scrapbooked w/ a friend all day Saturday & went out for Japanese lunch on Sunday.

Yea, they don't really understand how you might not want to be "mom" on mothers day, lol!

Where are you going to eat? We usually would go out for lunch after church, but I overslept & C was still asleep at 9:45 (I should get up at 8 & leave by 9:15 to get there on time), so we'll do a late lunch or early dinner, & avoid the crowds, lol! When the kids were still up at 10:45 watching Lord of the Rings part 3 w/ T last night, I figured we probably weren't going to make it to church .

We may go out for Thai, my 1st idea b/c it's not crowded at lunch, or I may go for Outback simce we'll be going at a strange time.

mom to Caroline Macy (3/10/00) & Wyatt Thomas (1/6/02)
