Dear Gunny, Did you know that according to the Navy Department, important intelligence information was acquired during the Makin Raid? "Carlson's Raiders" returned to Pearl Harbor with many captured documents, including plans, charts, battle orders, and one top secret map that provided the air defense capaabilities of all Japanese-held Pacific islands, the strength of the air forces on them, and the forces' radius of operations, methods of alert, types of aircraft, and operation plans for future emergencies. Japanese did not alter their plans even though the information had been compromised until the two Iwo Jima landings in 1945. Additional information can be found on page 45 of "A Century of US Naval Intelligence by Captain Wyman H. Packard USN Retired.Published by the Department of the Navy Washington and the Nava Historical Center.
