My brother Cleland (Known as Jake) was on the Long Patrol. Co. E, Second Platoon. He is alive and still remembers that particular engagement. He was awarded both a Silver Star and Purple Heart on that patrol. He would like to share his memories with others and maybe make contact with member of his unit. He retired from the Marine Corps as a Colonel. We both enjoy your site and glad we found it. Best regard Tom Early

Dick: Thanks for the great effort in putting together all the
information on
the Raiders. I like you have long believed that that part of
Marine Corps
history has long been neglected. As a nine year old I
understood that I had
three brother in the thick of one hell of a fight. Two in the
Marines and
one in the Army. In recent years I have been active in
researching their
participation in WW II. I just returned from following my oldest
brother
seven months of combat with the 84th Division in Europe. What a
Trip! I am
currently working hard to understand the outstanding career
Cleland had in
the Marine. What stories he has to tell. Time is of the essence
as he has
Alzheimer's but can still recall the unusual sound a Jap
machine gun
made. His views on Col. Carlson was very evident in the Houston
Chronicle
article. My other Marine brother a Careeer Maine retiring as a
GySgt,
served,as a Sgt aboard the USS Antietam.. He died three years
ago. I plan
on attending the 2000 reunion of the Antietam in his honor. One
of the great
pictures I have is the three bother standing in front of the Iwo
Memorial.
All three of us were in the Marines at the same time As a Cpl I
was low man
on the tottem pole. Thanks again for making my research so much
easier.
