Carlsons Raiders

Dear Sir,
I am writing to you to see if you or anyone else knows my father. His name was Marshall Don
McClintock. He said that he served with Carlson. Below is a quote from a story my stepmother
wrote about. I would like to know if anyone can verify this information. Quote
“By the 1st of February, 1944 all four of the Raider battalions were called together on
Guadalcanal. We were to be incorporated into one unit, the Fourth Marines. The commanding
officer was Colonel Alan Shapley. He too was one of Vandegrift’s men. In the new 4th Marines, the
first and fourth raider battalions became its first and second battalion; the third raiders became its 3rd
battalion. We, the 2nd raider battalion were reorganized into the regimental weapons company.”
The story also says that he was in company “A” with a Lieutenant Merwyn Plumley in charge. That
they were going to Makin Island. They arrived on the Island on August 16th.
His ssn is 536-14-2403, and his service number is 121525.
If you can help me I would greatly appreciate it. There are a lot of gaps concerning my fathers
military service, and I am not sure where to go to find out. Thank you , and God Bless.
Viola R. McClintock

my step-father m.c. "plum" plumley was a col. in carlson's raiders. i'm trying to find out information on him. i believe he was the first president of the raiders' association. he died 1981. the newsletter referred to him as "beloved". so i've been surprised that i haven't found anything on him. thank you for your help.

Hi,
My name is Dan Marsh and Dick Gaines forwarded your message to
me since I
was with the Marine Raiders during WW II. He also sent CC: to
others who
may be able to help.
The information concerning the deactivation of the Raiders in
Feb. 1944 is
accurate as it is stated. However, the name Marshall Don
McClintock does
not appear on the master roster of those who served in the U.S.
Marine
Raiders in WW II, or the boarding roster of the USS Argonaut on
which A
Company and part of B Company 2nd Raiders were transported to
Makin Island.
This all the information that is available to me but, I hope
other
recipients of your message can provide more assistance.
Semper Fidelis!

Your Father.

Your request for info was forwarded on to me by Gunny Gaines.
It sounds like your Father did indeed serve in Carlson's
Raiders,
The 2nd. Raider Battalion.
I checked the Raider Assoc. roster and do not find anything
under
that name. this does not mean he was not a Raider...only that he
was not
a member of the Assocition.
I suggest you check with the following Raider who is working
on the
new roster and it may contain your Father's name. Jack Dornan's
email is
marraidrec@aol.com He served in the 2nd. Raiders and might
have known
your Father.
I would also contact retired Marine Arch. Rackerby
at.....P.O. Box
83...Rough and Ready, Ca. 95975....Arch is the membership
secretary and
if anyone knows it is him.
Good Luck and Semper Fidelis.
Let me know how you come out.
