Joe Auman was a member of Company E of the 2nd Raider Bn.

He was killed on 11 November 1942, just outside of Binu, on
Guadalcanal. I understand that he as awarded the Navy Cross.

The information you already have is infact true. He was killed Novemeber 11, 1942. He was awarded the Navy Cross. However, something that you are excluding is that this man also had a ship named after him. Its name was the USS Auman (APD-117). He seems to be a true american Raider hero. He was in 2E.
