My experience has been that the two books on China by Carlson are rarely
available on the Net by used booksellers; the one or two times that I have
seen them listed, the price for each one has been in excess of $500.

Also, Carlson's bio (The Big Yankee...--by Michael Blankfort) usually goes
for about $60.--but also seldom available.

Most libraries participate in the Inter-Library Loan Program where they may
obtain these books from other locations, although it may take a few weeks; I

have borrowed all of the above books, and many more, in this way.

Does anyone know how the MCA makes decisions about what books to publish,
insofar as out of print books are concerned? I know, for example, that they
publish Rifleman Dodd. I've been searching madly for copies of Evans
Carlson's books on China - Twin Stars of China and The Chinese Army - and
short of scouring every 2d hand book shop, I am rather optionless. I would
think there would be a great interest in keeping books by Marines in print,
so it would seem to make sense that they would want to offer these
especially.

Thanks,
Jill Russell
