Of course. It also hogs the sound output, which I thought your version didn't.

Why, then, should I use the patched version instead of the original Generator?

Don't think so. All other apps using ALSA, ESD or any other audio server work fine. MPlayer using SDL works fine too, and the sound doesn't lag like in Gens or Generator.
