can you deny generator access to /dev/dsp under linux?

This is probably more of a Linux question than Generator one. My problem is that I want to listen to music while using generator (-0.34.gtk) but if I start generator it accesses /dev/dsp and makes it impossible to listen to anything else. I tried turning all the sound options off but it still accesses it and I can't find the config file or figure out the format of it to write my own. Any help greatly appreciated

Hi,

I've written a patch which includes various improvements. With the patch you can compile against
SDL (libSDL.org) which supports up- and down-sampling as well as using different audio interfaces e.g., ESound to share the audio devices between diverse applications. The patch hasn't been integrated into generator yet. If you want to check it out, drop me a mail:
