Generator fails to find the necessary video mode when I try to run it on my K6/2/500 system with Debian 2.2 and a Matrox G400 graphics card. Perhaps this is a normal consequence of its dependence on the execrable SVGAlib? But if anyone else has fathomed out how to configure this combination I would like to hear from them. For the rest, may I recommend DGenSDL? It's much the easiest Megadrive emulator to get running on Linux, in my experience. But I'd still like to try Generator, if anyone has worked out how to do it. The SVGAlib docs don't even mention the Matrox card ;-(

try VESA mode

The svgalib author recommends using the VESA chipset line in the svgalib.conf file for most modern cards, personally that has always worked for me, whereas the specific chipset lines for my video card have never worked properly on any machine I've had.
