Same thing happened to me a while ago.
Before you get to pay for hosting get a free space on http://www.port5.com
your URL will be http://paul.port5.com
You will get 15MB free space and a good ftp. No popups or logos. If you need more space just sign up with paul2 
They ask no questions and the only thing you have to mention is your email addy so they can send you instructions.
