Over this past weekend I took my girlfriend to Colonial Williamsburg for her birthday. This is a town in Virginia which has a 1 mile x 1/2 mile section restored to its 18th century condition. There's plenty to do, and many stores to visit, buildings to tour, etc. Within driving distance is an amusement park called Busch Gardens (roller coasters, rides, etc).
I left it to my girlfriend to book us a room (for 2 nights) at whatever hotel she wanted. She found a very nice-looking one on the Internet called Colonial America. What a nightmare this place is! We had the following problems (to name a few):
1. Our reservations were lost
2. The reservation price was not honoured
3. The room was dirty and contained remains of a previous guest
4. One of the mattresses was falling apart
5. There was foreign material in my food at dinner
6. The hotel policy was stated differently by different members of staff.
And that's just the start. When we voiced displeasure with the accomodations, we were told by one of the hotel workers to just "go somewhere else", which we did. It took most of the first evening to find another hotel (the area gets booked up fast) for the next evening. The next morning when we attempted to check out, we wasted another 90 minutes because they tried to charge us for everything, even though we were leaving and had returned everything that we had purchased (amusement park tickets, etc) with the room.
All the employees were contradicting each other, with regards to hotel policy. Many told us that even though it was only 9am, we were already the 3rd party to complain that morning. What a nightmare! I will be checking my credit card for unauthorized charges because I don't trust that place!!
I hope everyone else's weekend went better
