America declared independence from England in 1776, so yes, America was discovered then. Actually Chris Columbus ran into America waaaay back in 1492 while trying to sail around the world to the Indies, which is how native Americans came to be called "Indians".
As far as the tavern, I wrote that temporarily because I could't remember the name of the damn thing, and since it was closed when we went, I didn't get to read about its history. Since then I've researched it and found it was built in 1828. More info can be found here:
