You are one lucky man, I have been to Africa 4 or 5 times,(Tanzania once, Kenya 3 or 4 times) it is a great place, the people are very friendly, If you are looking for the cheapest way s to live there I will tell you join the Youth Hostelling Association, the prices over there are really cheap, (don't forget to take your student card it will save you lots of money.
If you get the chance go up Mount Killimanjaro, it is a five or six day trek (six is better) it is fantastic. PS. if you do this make sure you have waterproof and warm clothing, it gets very cold high up.
