I think the black looks ok
One of the things that I think would make the site look better would be to work on the logo a bit. Maybe something that played on the word "Trek" (just like webcrawler has the lil spider, or the us postal service with it's eagle). Maybe footprints or a plane zipping through the center.
I read Susan's post, and I've resigned myself to accepting the fact that there is no convincing her just how bad frames really are - it's something she will have to find out for herself in time. It's one of those things we stubborn people (including me :P) all go through.
Something else you can do that may help you maintain your site easier would be to use css to control the appearances of things. With css, you can change the text, background, or link font sizes, colours, styles, etc, by editing a single file. This way of you want to change the font colours of your whole site, you edit one line in one file. If you want a small "how-to" let me know and I'll e-mail you one.
