On 12th October 1492, Columbus visited five islands in the Bahamas before reaching Cuba. He named these (in order) San Salvador, Santa Maria de la Concepcion, Fernandina, Isabela, and Las Islas de Arena. This is just one of many theories, but the general consensus is that the south was 'discovered' first, it was called The New World and later split up into North and South America. More information to come soon if requested.
