A Review of the HW50s
A little history.
There are several different versions of the HW50 including Beeman's R8. The model was dropped but not forgotten. Weinrauch decided that they would rename the HW 99/R6 to HW50s. Why Weinranch used the 50 designation is beyond me. So the older HW50's and the new HW50's are two different guns, as distinguished by the letter S. This review is about, the latter so please keep that in mind while reading this. (If I'm wrong on the history please someone correct me).

Why the HW50s.
I wanted a hard hitting R7 with a full length stock. Enter the HW50s. I was looking for the HW30 instead of the R7 (being the same gun with a different stock) since I was going to replace the stock anyway. While shopping I came across HW50s, right between the HW30/R7 and the HW95/R9. A medium springer with a full length stock.

First Impressions.
I order the gun from DAK Sport Inc.http://www.canada-shops.com/stores/siarms/). The gun took a little longer getting to me as DAK Sport had to go through some extra paper work to ship the gun into the US or should I out of Canada(DAK Sport Inc. is located in Canada).
The gun arrived well packed in form fitting foam. They also packed a sleeve of JSB Express in the same box without any worries.

The buleing was even and deep, which makes it easy on the eyes. The stock is a sportster style made of beech wood without any checkering. It is sleek and slender and gives it a no nonsense business look to the gun. The cheek piece is for the right handed shooter. I ordered mind with iron sight with interchangeable inserts s and strap swivels.

When I first picked the gun up I was surprised by how much it weighed. I may have had a preconceived notion, believing that the HW50s would be slightly heavier than a HW30, or the fact that is only 3 inches longer (40.5 inches) than the BSA Lightning XL. Truth be tolded the gun weights in at 6.8lbs. The weight gives the gun a very solid feel.
I ran a few cleaning patches through the barrel and wiped down the whole gun with Remington gun oil. The gun was pretty clean to begin with, so on to the shooting.

Cocking.
Once aging I was surprised by this gun. The cocking effort as stated by the manual is 20lbs but it feels more like 40lbs. To give you an idea of the cocking force needed I would say it was even with my BSA Lightning XL. Maybe the optional muzzle brake instead of iron sights may have help some, but this gun is not even close to 20lbs.

Trigger.
Record trigger. What more needs to be said.

Shooting.
Before I wrote this review, I want to put more than just a few pellets through this gun. As of writing this I have just over a tin and a half of pellets going down the barrel of the HW50s.
Shooting the HW50s is a really joy. You can compare the recoil and mannerisms to that of the HW30/R7 more than the HW95/R9. I find the gun easy to point and hold on target after the shot. I am able see my pellet hit on some of the longer distance targets (with the right lighting conditions).

Accuracy.
This gun will shoot better than you everyday of the week. I have thought of shooting the 50 in FT and I don't believe it would hinder me at all.

The gun carries well in the field and will make and exellent hunter.

Power.
Meg ultra super power....nope, this well oiled machine clocks in at an avg. of 790ish with JSB express. If you do the math that equals just a touch under 11FPE. Well what can 11FPE do?
Well I'm glad you asked . I took two tin cans and place one inside another than filled it with water. The results are the pellet passed through the first two layers and dented the third pretty good. Oh this was at 50yards (measured) to boot. Please see the pictures as they explain it a lot better. So 11FPE can do some damage.

This is the pellet after punching through. Once again 50 yards.

To sum it up.
Weinrauch has a winner here I'm just upset I didn't find it sooner. I would like to see a vented butt pad and some checkering on the stock, but I can live with it.
