I was an original member of Joe Krepps GTA power list
or whatever it
was called back in the day.
Just pulled my car out from under the cover after
over a year, and it
started first time after reconnecting the battery.
Filled the tank with 8.6 gallons of unleaded regular.
Seems cheap
compared to my Subaru RS with the 16 gal tank and it takes
premium
(because I put a turbo on it).

Subject: Rear disc brakes on a GTA?
Help! I've been told that the 1987 Renault GTA sold in
America had rear disc
brakes available as an option. Is this true? Can anyone
confirm rear disc
brakes available in the United States? I would pay for
documentation of
such, and I would especially be interested in an actual set
of rear discs

European R-9
Turbo models did have a rear Pad set up-- BUT that brake
design was strictly
European, and did not resemble anything like the
Kelsy-Hayes brake design of
Alliance/Encore USA cars.... Is there any more information
about better USA
brakes for the USA cars that might help out GREG-- and the
rest of us???

I told my father about the 44K loaded silver GTA
convertible on ebay
and he went ahead and bought it early from the seller for
slightly
more than the reserve of $3050. He already has 2 sedans and
one
convertible and could not resist the chance to buy one of
the rareist
and most fully optioned low mile one owner GTA converts at
what will
someday be looked back on as an amazing low price. It is
going to a
good AMC/Jeep /Renault home and will basically be pampered
and
preserved. Thanks to the Power group for the heads up on
this
particular fine car for sale. Will post some detailed
images of it

I have no dealings with these cars on Ebay, but I do have
opinions-- and
mostly it is BEWARE of BS or Baloney when tring to sort out
facts...
if possible-- get someone to look at any car for
auction.....

experience I've had yet...save the part where the brakes
went out on the other Alliance, the '86 4-door named "Fred the Car" that
I gave him to
drive home with...I drove through the front wall of my

house learning the dynamics of Pnematic engineering on 2
cars- the
Convertible I sold him and the "Fred the car" Brake
repair-- that-- sent Tim
and myself Crashing into his Garage by of couce- "Fred the
car" brake
failure... after disasembling the car here, I managed to
take out the front
Motor mount of the 1.4 and put it into my GTA!!!!

I am In Ontario Canada
On One of my Converibles I modified a 2 door Regulator
mechanism to work
with the GTA one Also I Took out the power Window Mechanism
and replaced
it
with a Manual one less problems and somewhat easier too
find.
I have lots of racing stuff for 1.7/2.0's too
I have a MPFI system for a 2.0 with a funky exaust
manifold.
I'll take a picture and send it too you in a couple of days
I'll also dig up some pictures of my other renaults for ya.
Also My timing Belts...I usally get them at NAPA but
Somtimes I orded
them
from Canadian Tire....That's a big Car parts place up here
in canada

Hi,
As for cylinders I have found them on local recycle
yard-whole car.
Got some oem p/n R 83501076
L 83501077
Try Chrys locator to find if they are still on somebody's
shelf.
I could also ask that guy on yard to remove them
off(drilling spot
welds)

Hey Joe, I just sent and email to a number of the Power
List members
about my
GTA convertible. I am ready to sell the Silver One if you
know anyone
interested. I am asking $2000 Firm, or I would trade it
for any low
mile older Renault of my interest.
As far as I know you can use a JB3 box on a F7R engine. The
F7R is the
2.0 16v engine as used in the Clio Williams. The F7P engine
is basically
the same engine but only 1.8 liter. This engine uses a JB3
gearbox (my
19 1.8 16v has one). The 11 turbo has the same box ; only
uses other
gear ratio's

you went to carlisle and have a silver GTA. I would love to
see pictures
and is it the original color from 1987? If it is, would you

code? My GTA is white and since the majority I saw where
white, i want
to paint it silver but want the original color from 1987. I
don't have
pictures of mine just yet, but when I do, I'll send you
some.

here it is: under the hood (isn't that how all these
stories start?) smile -- just in front of the shock tower and right
behind the battery
there is a small metal box. if my gta were a ford mustang
i'd call it a
soleniod. hmm...the people that i have showed the auto to
don't seem to
think
that's what it is. whatever that part is needs to be
replaced according the
the gentleman that "looked" at the auto for me.
DID YOU EVER REPLACE THAT SOLENIOID AND GET THE GTA GOING
AGAIN????

The plastic peice that is directly behind the rear side
windows. It is
triangle in shape. It gives the three grooves. Mine blew
off on the
freeway.
I also need the trim piece that goes
behindthe rear window on the drivers side. It's the
trapezoidal platic piece
that snaps to the body. If you have one that is red it
would be great

The car overheated, so he took it to the garage cuz he
thought that it was
the thermostat. The mechaninc said that what had actually
happened was that
one of the cylenders blew, which caused the cam to crack.
I WANTED TO HEAR MORE ABOUT THIS SO CALLED MECHANIC-- LET
US KNOW WHAT
HAPPENED TO YOUR CAR AND THAT GUY WHO DIAGNOSED YOUR
