In a brilliant move, I managed to get the Red 84 Encore off the street- and into the neighbors driveway!!!!!
The Licence plates had run out-- and I was in serious indecesion about what to do with the little 1.4 body-- but alas--the neighbor came to the rescue!!!
(Remember in Cincinnati-- you are BAD if you let your plates expire, the fuzz jump all over you-- but if you commit a crime- you quite literally get out of jail free!!!)
I need the front end so I can make repairs to a wrecked 87 GTA. That Red GTA got smacked in the front, bumper, fenders, and hood, which the hood mashed into the windschield wiper shafts, that far back needs repair-- it also bent the front cradle too--- but my concern is the FRONTAL CRUMPLE ZONE- and/or the engineering behind it....
So- the bodywork needed is the front.
Anyone done extensive bodywork or FRAME work on a R-9/11 car??
There are frame rails extending onto the bumper BASE, and I believe the rails have some sort of Crumple engineering-- don't know how much,or the ABSORTION CAPACITY, but I hope it is there-- if not-- then the
bending, and according to the hit, will generally push the metal back into the rear of the car upon frontal impact.
If it is a side hit-- then there will be some sideways bending of the metal rails-- but in this case, it was strictly frontal impact DEAD STRAIGHT. It appears if I cut the Encore Rails behind the shock
tower, measure, attach,, All I will have to do is make sure the used part is measured to a decent cradle, and also the height of the hood base. Sounds real simple, but if there is a hidden Crumple zone I am not seeing, and it is indeed pushed like an accordian-- then the metal will endure stress over the long run and be suceptable of cracks.
This long term project- already a year overdue, wont happen soon, but I want to get my parts available from this parts car, and get advise to the proper direction.
I have chopped up 3 other alliance/GTA cars for parts-- and in doing so found them to be real tough dismantling them in small handling pieces, but if someone recomends that a once hit and Bent alliance can be a potential problem/headache/safetyconcern/ then I
might want to search for another body what I know so far.
ALLIANCE/ENCORE SHARES SAME FRONT END- Except the added metal plate on the passengers frame rail can be removed (looks like a belt protector- plate is 2 inches tall by about 14 inches)
Fenders, bumpers are the same in front interchangable cept the GTA bumper covers, but a good cover is a good cover period.
Thanks-- any information would be helpfull-- Joe wagner in cincinnati....
(thank heavens the Encore did not get towed away or ticketed....)
UPDATE--- In my haste of this project-- I forgot that the front metal Facia is of the 4 headlight design- while the 87 R-9 is of the 2 frontal headlights--- so I either must change the facia - or re-drill the headlights-- but the advantage here is a solid piece of good metal to use....
Thanks- Joe Wagner in USA!!!

Well, it looks like you're in trouble. If the rails are twisted or bent, it's not good. Even if the car's frame is a bit bent, it's an expensive repair, if you want to do it right, you can unbend it in a proper machine, but it is costly, and a repaired frame is, for what I know, most of the times not as good as an "original" one. I would not consider breaking a hypothesis in a rough case. If things go wrong, it probably will get bent again. Worst of all is if the car loses torsional rigidity, and that is quite probable if you have to fix the frame. My advice, buy another body, it probably gets cheaper and will be better off that way.
