Hello again,

Can anyone tell me what (the heck ) does the suffix 730 in my Renault C2J engine mean? What's the max power / torque of such version?
I've also read, that turning off the EGR (exhaust re-circulation system) (my car has it, even though it's a carburretor version) may improve the engine performance - have you tried it?
In theory it should help (means improve perf.) -> it prevents the exhaust gases from mixing with the fresh air/fuel mixture that flows thru the inlet manifold. I haven't tried it yet - just wondering if it would really work...

Well, I've read your post, and thought for a while, that system must be a bit useful, I think. I really never bothered to find it In my R9, but I've seen it in my brother's Lancia Y10 1.1 i.e. I've noticed that the EGR tube that connected the exhaust pipes to the air filter was rottened as hell, and it was replaced by a new one. The car worked fine whithout it, and works fine with it. But if it is there it must be useful. One of its abilities is to reduce the moisture of the air that goes into the engine. At least in Portugal, where I live, the air is always cold and moisty in the Winter Mornings. And it is so that every car makes a lot of white smoke when it was started not long ago. That white smoke is water steam. After a while, when the engine is warmer, the car doesen't spit that white smoke anymore. Also, cold air is better for the engine's combustion, but not too cold. One of my University's disciplines made me understand better metals, especially engines. It may work a bit, but on specific conditions. If you sum up the variables, you'll find the EGR suitable to a wider variety of situations. I've also found the EGR to be as a sort of "turbo", as the air that comes with considerable speed out of the engine and "pushes" more air into the engine. Maybe this works better...
