Hi,
Since the cv-joint rubber has ripped at the left wheel, and I didn't want to change the thing myself (just came back from vacation), I took it to the local universal garage,..
This morning the guy phoned me, and said:
cv-joint rubber on both sides (left and right wheel) are torn (ok , no sweat yet), but the driveshafts won't come off.. not with the hamer, not with the hydrolic press,. no way.. The righthand driveshaft is not totally demolished: the bolt won't fit on again, cause he hit it hard with a slegdehammer..
He now claims, I need 2 new driveshafts, 2 new 'wheelhousings' 2 new bearings,. the lot
1400 euro's
Is this normal?
I'm totally fed up with the bloody thing.. I told him to bolt the shit to gether so I can take it home (one driveshaft will not be secured), and change the shit myself..
I'm a Volkswagen-Hobby-Mechanic, so I'm not known with specific Renault problems (yet), and have no experience with this car.. I'm thinking of taking the complete sets of a scrapyard Clio (40 euro's per side), and bolt it straight on.. Will I be able to do this?
Has anyone heard of this before? What's the best thing to do: The left-hand side is not yet demolished, so I could try to save it...
It's a 1994 clio, with 1.2 E7F motor, and JB1 gearbox..
got 60.000 km / 37.500 miles on the clock, bought the car 1 month ago, no garantee, probably used as 'shopping' car, since milage is low, minor parking dents..

At this forum we don't know much about Clio's.. (at least I don't know much about them). Driveshafts of R9/11 are quite easy to replace, without damaging anything. I did it three (or four?) times already on my R11.
I think it is NOT normal that the CV-joints are gone already after 60.000 km. On a '94 car, I would not except them to fail.
But sorry, I have no idea how to replace a driveshaft on a Clio.
