Now here are some pics from my '85 R9 with the new wheels. They are Renault wheels which can be mainly used on R19, Megane and Laguna. I decided to fit on 185/55 R 15.
The pictures probably need some time to load depending on your connection.

Bye
Kosta

Your car is fantastic, it seems like brand new. Is it overpainted? What is the model of this R9, GTL?

Yes, it’s a Renault 9 GTL. My grandfather bought the car in 1985 and I own it since 10 years now. The car is mainly in original condition; the only modifications I’ve made are painted bumper bars, tail lights from R9 Phase II, a leather steering-wheel and – of course – the wheels.
The motor is a C2J with 49 kW/67 PS, it has approximately 188000 km on the clock. The fuel consumption with the original wheels (175/70 R 13 on 5.5 x 13) was about 6.5-7 l/100 km. I don’t know if the car will need more fuel with the wider wheels because I drove only about 50 km with the new wheels until now.
Parts of the car were repainted some years ago because a guy crashed into the rear. Ironically it was a French guy with a Peugeot!
Actually I wanted to fit on 195/50 R 15 but with these wheels there was only very little space between wheel and rear fender. I don’t want to modify the rear fenders so I decided to fit on 185/55 R 15. The handling is very similar to that with the original wheels.

Bye

Congratulations, your car looks very nice!

You seem to have made a wise decision choosing 185 mm tyres instead of 195s, saving you from modifications to the rear arches.

My R9 used to wear 7 x 15 ET 36 steel wheels (original Clio Cup wheels) with 195/50R15 tyres, and I couldn't take rear passengers or much luggage, otherwise the rear tyres scrubbed against the body. One centimeter doesn't seem much, but in an R9 (or a 5-door R11) it makes all the difference at the rear.

However, even if my Sava tyres (yeah, I was broke back then... Well, still am, actually...) were marked 195/50R15, I measured the tread surface to be 215 mm wide! In fact they were actually wider than the 205/40R17 I later bought for my R19...

Speaking of 17-inchers, I currently have my R9 on 17s! My 9 is finally for sale (bought a '00 Twingo...), and I wanted to make this one last experiment I'd always dreamt of doing, before my 9 and I part company. Which will be kind of a sad moment, I'm afraid.

I too will post pictures of my car in its current state quite soon(ish).
