Hi,

I used to own a 11 TXE about seven years ago, and now i need another! I've found a black Electronic which i'm going to see this week. Any suggestions as what to look for, when i owned mine it was relatively young so not rotten or anything. Any help or advice would be appreciated. I've also had a look at a couple of R11 Turbos but no luck so far...

Hi There,
Things to look for........
Rust in front wings
Rust in boot area by the side of the shock fixings [peel back
foam covering]
mileage module, electronic dash ,trip computer also stops working.
Carb/timing module - poor idle & flat spots when accelerating
Sun roof leaks...the drain pipes rust away...this leads to
rust in the floorpan / sills
I am on my 3rd 11 Electronic... been driving one since 89 i
have had most of the faults above
still a fun car to own..but they were only made between 84-86
...getting on in years now so anything could fail really.Good luck & i hope the car you view is in good condition.....let us know how it goes....Dave.S

Thanks for that. I'll let you know. I'm also looking at what sounds like a good ph1 11 Turbo, so one way or another I should have an 11 soon. The Electronic is supposed to be in very good condition and has done only 70k with two owners from new, but we will see......

Hi Dave, the common problems I found are:
leaky petrol caps(=rust&water in tank)
A leaky sunroof ,where the rubber drain hoses just get blocked up with mud ,kicked up by the wheels. You will find them,by looking on the right hand side ,in the wheel arches and uncliping the plastic trim.I just cleaned mine out useing a pen, as the mud only goes up a couple of inches.
Front Outer anti-roll bar rubbers, these had gone on all my R11s.It makes a bonking sound when going over rough road & bumps. They cost £5 a set & are very cheap to have fitted.

Rusty sills & very often a patch of rust, just behind the p/tank ,on the structural beam.

Also, the boots always leak, so check under the boot carpet in the corners for rust.

And the other things, rusty wings, mile ometer failure.

hope this helps .
All the best Jack.

Been and seen it, and bought it! It's basically very very good. The only rust anywhere on it is a little bit around corners of the front screen, it needs a new screen anyway as it's starting to de-laminate so when the screen comes out i'll get those bits done. Otherwise the bonnet could do with a repaint but thats it. All the Electronic bits - dash, windows, c/locking, mirrors work, no water leaks into the boot and it's just in amazingly good condition Ready for summer and a few shows I think...
