Hello, this is Tom, the owner of a 1985 1.6l diesel R9. I am 21 and it is my first car; I think it is great. The car seems so light and easy to maneuver--apart from R19 which I find kind of clumsy. Anyway, the engine with about 150000 km on (I bought the car 2 years ago with 120000) seems to have ended it's career. The cooling canals are broken, oil's leaking out of many spots; the pressure in the "cooling can" is too high and on the other side I'm loosing the coolant. Please excuse my English especially regarding the car terms. I need to buy a different one, I am looking for one up to 80000km, but those engines are not so easy to be had in the Czech Republic, especially diesels. Therefore I'd like to ask you, mainly Artur (who, as I understand, is Polish), what you think should be an appropriate price for such a 1.6 diesel R9/11 engine up to 80000km on, completely functional(without the transmission or how it is called in English) in US Dollars and whether you, Artur, know about any such engine to be sold in Poland (I would drive down there).
Last year I went to France with this car. A mechanic told me that the engine will bear no more than 5000km (he only changed the "pressure-proof" (I guess you'll find out what I mean) under the head). We searched for it all the way through Germany to the Atlantic coast but they either didn't have any diesels or it cost like 7000 French Franks which I think is very expensive.

If you take the time to read this letter and answer it, thank you very much. See you, Tom.

Maybe in my county (the Netherland) they have such an engine for you. It is difficult to find an engine because there good. My 1985 R9 has drive 278000 km without serious problems! If you want some adresses of people here with engines mail me!

I'll scan our polish scrapyards for that engine (F8M), but they may also have a F8Q (a 1,9ltr from 19/Clio), and it'll also fit your 11. The only thing you will need to preserve from your old engine is the number plate.

Hello, Artur. I'd be really glad if you found something; the 1.9l might be better if it fits to R9 also. How much do you think it would cost? Thanks very much, Tom.

Hi Tom !

It's strange that 150.000 km old Diesel has gone
(my R9 GTD has almost 225.000 km behind and I have
no problems with it), but I'll check one scrapyard
near Warsaw for F8M or F8Q engine in good condition.
This scrapyard specialises in French cars, especially
in Renaults. I have bought some good parts for my R9
there, and when I was there recently, they have two
R9s and one of them was GTD
I'm going to go there in the next two or three days
(I'm looking for some plastics for front right door),
so I'll have a look for Your engine.

Best Regards,

Peter
