OK, so the rear axle bushes seem to last for 313.000 km.

The 9 had been standing unused for about a month and I only changed its studded winter tyres for summer tyres last weekend. Went for a pressure check / test drive and noticed these unpleasant creaking & banging noises from the rear. Nothing to do with the wheels. Can't understand why I haven't heard those sounds earlier, they're so loud. Maybe they weren't as bad earlier, and the one month stay was the final blow the tired rubber bushes needed to completely dry out and start creaking?

So, with the classic symptoms of tired rear axle bushes, I'll need to start thinking of a repair. I'm thinking of two options: Replace the bushes on the existing axle or finally get a four-bar axle from a TXE or Turbo? I know of a Turbo axle that also needs the bushes replaced. I may go for that, after all it won't be much more expensive to repair that than my existing axle...

So, I'm a real 'the-guy's-got-his-priorities-mixed' case: The rear axle needs repairing but I'm buying a set of new alloys instead!

Rear axle bushing dimensions or part numbers?

No score for this post

OK, I'd be really grateful if someone could tell me the dimensions of the Renault 9/11 four-bar rear axle bushes! The ones pressed into the mounting brackets. I'd need the following dimensions: bush outer and inner diameter, bush length (of both inner and outer sleeve if they differ).

The original Renault replacement for the bush includes the mounting bracket as well and is very expensive, as usual. Well over FIM 1000,- for a side (that's appr. € 180,-)!

However, I have access to the French bush manufacturer's (Hutchinson/Paulstra) catalogue and it lists four different rear axle bushes for R9/11 rear axles. Just the bushes without the mounting brackets, so the price is in an entirely different league. And as I've understood, Renault uses just these Paulstra bushes to compile their bush/bracket assembly. Now, one or two of those listed bushes are for the two-bar axle, but I guess one or two might be for the four-bar axle?
The problem is, there are no versions or even axle types specified in the catalogue. There are just Paulstra and original Renault part numbers for each, but those Renault numbers can't be found on any R9/11 microfiche listing parts available for customers. So, I guess those numbers are for Renault internal use, for manufacturing instructions like: "Press our bush number 7700****** into our bracket number 7700****** and you get a customer end product, bush/bracket assembly number 7700******".

So, bush dimensions were appreciated, but so would be those Renault internal part numbers, too.

Rear Suspension Bushes...

Hi there...

Last week I found a question that you placed in a forum on Network54 about Renaults (mai 2001).

In that email you were asking about dimensions of outer suspension bushes on a rear suspension of a R9/11 (four torsion bar design).

I live in Canada and I own a renault GTA (1987),which is essentially a sporty version of a R9 2 door coupe with a 2l engine and a beefed up suspension (nothing to do with the Renault GTA sold in europe).

Renault never made available the four torsion bar rear suspension for R9/11 in North America (only bigger models like R21 an R25 respectively called Medallion and Premier on this side of the Atlantic ocean had that type of suspension).

Now, despite the fact that I can't answer your question, I decided to send you this email anyway. The reason being that I have the same problem with those bushes on my car (although the rear suspension on my Renault is a "2 torsion bar & sway bar" design).

What cought my eye in the question you posted in that forum on the web is that you were saying that you have access to a catalogue from Hutchinson/Paulstra which is the company that manufactures those bushes.
As far as I'm concerned, if I knew where I could buy two new rubber bushings (without the brackets), I would simply disassemble the suspension on my car, pull the old bushes out of the suspension brackets and then measure with a caliper the inner bracket diameter and outer cross-member diameter (or whatever the critical dimensions are for a four torsion bar suspension) so that I could look up the right part number in the manufacturer's catalogue.

So here's the question I have for you:
-Assuming you could determine what part number you need to fix your car, where would you go to buy those bushes??
-Is it possible to buy ONLY two bushes from Hutchinson/Paulstra (either on the web or in a shop somewhere) or wouldn't that be the kind of part suppliers that sell only in LARGE quantities??

So if you could let me know WHERE somebody can buy those rear suspension bushes (regardless of what suspension type) I would really appreciate it.

Regards.

Michael Durand
