Hi
Here in Bulgaria are many suppliers of shims but the price for one piece vary from 2 to 3 USD.
BTW I plan to adjust mine too and I'll go to check whether is some analog of shims in other brands like LADA from Russia :)) they are pretty good an cost around half USD :))

Ok, if you guys can find a less expensive source for the shims please tell us so we can stock them. We only get the genuine Renault shims which are very expensive! I think we are charging $2.00 each now. We are looking into havingthem manufactured here in the USA. We also are importing a Titanium cam follower cup which is taller so it can use the more available thinner shims. When you buy the shims from Reanult you get a kit of assorted sizes but most are alot thinner than required when adjusting valves. With these taller lighter Cam follower cups we get a smoother running motor with less parastalic drag and use the smaller shims. We stock these shims and the new valves for the F3N and USA only F3R engines.
Thanks, Jamie

I have had this problem on my 2.0's, and 1.7's
I got fed up with it
so I had a local Machine shop make me some shims to fit under my existing ones to correct the gap and it works.
Chrysler used to sell the shims for about 8 bucks a piece. Another idea is to go to a wrecker and pull all the shims out of every car in the place
this would take the minimum of time and you would robably find the ones you need... Good luck with your task John

Living in Winnipeg, Manitoba were deep in the salt belt
Seems these cars are pretty rare here in the wreckers, all of them being disposed of years ago. <sigh>
I went out to the wreckers this weekend and I found 1 1.4 litre model.
In reality I don't care if the intakes are a bit noisy, but the exhaust valves have receeded a bit, and it's created a rough idle. they are around .003" too .005" too tight. I'll think of somthing. the thought of spending $250 to do a valve job really isn't somthing I want to do. Especially considering I am a student.
I'll keep my eyes open, if need be, i'll take 3 to 5 thou off the tips of the valves with a grinder first.

A neat trick is to use Alfa Romeo Vavle shim caps on top of the valve itself to raise the bucket up these are cheap and come in a multitude of sizes. We use to do this alot untill I floated a bucket when the little cap let go at 8000rpm gues what"DEAD MOTOR"! So if you try this keep it under 8000 RPM. The Alfa shims are less than $0.25 each and are readily available amoung Alfa tunners.
