Corsos, Bandogs and Black Russian bears! Oh My!!

It was a weekend of firsts and really big, big, dogs, no Wimpy, Wimpy, mals here, this is Mastiff country.

The first annual Northwest Working Dog Expo was a weekend to remember. Bella Rosa Cane Corso hosted and had every one decked out in as nice a facility as anyone can ask for. The county rodeo arena, with covered grandstand, kept the crowd shaded and cool with almost perfect weather for the dogs on the field as well.

No it wasn't really a Russian bear it was a Russian Black Terrier, and I feel sorry for the bear that would cross this dude. A modern breed developed by the Soviet army to be the ultimate guard dog this is a dog!

For those not familiar they are coated and look like a Giant Schnauzer or Bouvier, but about twenty pounds heavier. Even with a haircut you can't see the eyes, but when the decoy in Civil Agitation threatened Donna Benton Reid, of Cerberus BRT kennnel, you had no trouble seeing a whole lot of teeth. The first Black Russian Terrier in K9PS was a definite hit.

As I said it was a weekend of firsts, Tim Steagall was in his first K9PS trial as a certified decoy, and the dogs were all shown to their very best. He also took part in another first.

We have had husband and wife teams compete in K9PS, we have had girl friend/boyfriend, we've even had a liplocked pair a time or two, but this weekend we had the first brother, sister, competitors. Tim had big sister Angie enter her first ever dog competition with her GSD Ely. So how did big sister do against little brother with the really big dog?

Well the Fila Brasilieros rocked the training division, but the top finishers in Personal Protection (unofficially) as memory serves.
Fourth, Bandog, Butch, handler Brian Lehfeldt.
Third, Cane Corso, Trajen, owner Virginia Dunn.
Second, Cane Corso, Lucious, owner Tim Steagall.
First, GSD, Ely, owner Angie Steagall.

Definitely a weekend of firsts and big Big dogs. More later, Next trial June 16 Ft. Worth Tx. for now,
Listen Well, Bite Hard
