Purchased in 1998, has over 120,000 miles and no major repairs. Just brakes, oil, tires. The AC blower went out under warranty, caused by a fuse. Never changed anything, original plugs, wires, antifreeze, hoses, belts ... never left me stranded, seen many miles between NYC and PA, brutal traffic, potholes, hills, heat, cold, rain and snow. Looking for 200,000 miles plus and will keep climbing.
Downside is that it's murder on your back. Seats are not made for American-sized human frames.
Never had a bad vehicle, knock on wood and thank God. Problems were mostly due to shithead mechanics. I hate letting anyone touch my car, and for good reason. I can go on, but just take my word for it, if you leave it up to someone else, you are screwed unless you know the mechanic well enough and trust their ability.
My brother told me about a MAZDA that had 450,000 miles on it. Holy cow, can you believe that? Almost 1/2 million miles? How you treat and drive the beast, along with local conditions makes a difference.
