Why do people feel the need to be rude?

I didnt feel the need to discount the girl who said she'd bumped into Vin at some racing event (Rissa I believe), or the person who said they saw him at a comic book convention, or the person who said they saw him at a night club, or at a coffee shop, or out shopping. I read these people's accounts, enjoy what I read, and go on. If they are telling the truth, then great, they've had an experience that others would love to have. If they are not telling the truth, then oh well let them spout away they will eventually shut up. I don't even flame those who say they "slept with Vin" last night (even though we all suspect it is not true) and spread their tabloid fodder, because maybe they did sleeep with Vin in their dream.

I said all that to say this. I did not come here for validation of my experiences, I came here to discuss a great artist and to share my thoughts and feelings on his career. Never once did I say that I still have contact with Vin or that he is my best friend or that I had slept with him or anything other than what really happened. It was a few meetings and discussions at independent film festivals where he, his brother and my dh and I struck up conversations. No indepth pour-your-heart-out-talk-about-family-kids-and-the-dog discussions just film talk and friendly banter.
