Vin wasn't following a 'rule'. He was only following scottish tradition of wearing a kilt while in Scotland.
He didn't 'have' to wear one. He chose too and went to the trouble of having one specially made. Vin has Scottish roots (through his Mom) - his mother was with him as they scouted areas of scotland for an indy film he's making concerning his ancestors.
I think it was great. And respectful to Scottish tradition and to his ancestors.
