Re: First lathe/machining questions, tooling up...

I haven't done it myself, but...........I might un-harden the hammer, do my thing to it on the lathe, then re-harden it, if I had the ability to do so. Thats the theory, but I have no practical experience in a similar situation. My wife won't let me use the kitchen oven, and I don't have other heat treating capabilities.
