Response to Dial indicators, hammers, and carbide.

Ok, here goes, first you get what you pay for peroid. You can hunt around and find the best used quality measuring equipment for LESS that the import junk. The main problem with the Chinese imported stuff is simply it cant be fixed or be certified for precision uses. Last year my metal group had a yard sale, there was quality stuff and "import" stuff, a buddy saw a 0 -3 inch dial indicator for $20.00, he asked me about it and I said better to go see a movie, popcorn, drinks for the $20.00.He kept on me and I simply told him this: You dont know what your getting, could be a good one, or could be a paperweight, decide on if what you do tolerance wise is within this indicator. He bought it and called me next day and said that he had taken it apart and found it was so bad that he was going to melt it down.
I routenly find Mitutoyo digital calipers for under $40.00 in like new condition, will last a lifetime of commercial use, many lifetimes hobby use. Best Test Indicators for as low as $ 30.00 like new in case, Etalon micrometers for $20.00 in excellent condition. Why gamble with something that wasnt made to a standard and cant be serviced?? You will need a good caliper, micrometer, dial indicator & holder to start, why buy something 2X when it can be had for less by buying quality first time around, its worth more if you sell later.
