So, tonight I'm in the garage, on the lathe, modifying a short part, maybe an inch long, 3/4" OD with a flange. I finish, put stuff away, clean up the machine, then go to clean up the part, and can't find it anywhere!!!! I mean I looked up, down, over, under and sideways, moved stuff all over my bench and just about everywhere else. Then I check again, and when I look over my lathe tooling, there it is. Turns out I had never removed it from the chuck!! I had checked it and measured and all when it was still in the chuck, then just put the chuck away with the part in it. Smart, huh?
Actually, after the fact, it kinda made sense that was where it would be. So, I'm just suggesting a place to look if (when) it happens to you.
