One of the most interesting aspects of machine shop work is the planning of a project method to achieve desired results. I felt there wouldn't be enough material left on the backplate to hold 0.0005" accuracy without frequent realignment and more mass would help dampen harmonics during machine operations. IMO this chuck is more capable of delivering repeatable accuracy than my lathe.
An interesting project with an incredible pile of chips and cast iron swarf.
I've wanted a 6 jaw for a long time and I needed better support for working on airgun spring power pistons and thin-wall tubing.
