can someone do the math, how long should it take to reduce . 1.00 to .600n

Mini lathe cutting 6061 with tool steel thats sharpened and cutting a 1.00 inch section?i know something is off with my time invested.
Im beyond annoyed, although the aluminum i have cut looks mirror quality..anytime i cut more than. 001 it seems to bog...
