A good samaritan posted this on my forum ... I'm passing it on. Always be extra careful around co2 and precharged guns ... a tight end cap or valve fastening fasteners is a DANGER ALERT!

..you remove the valve retaining screws on a PCP gun, while the reservoir is still filled with air.

From the British BBS airgun site.

Hi all
Out of hospital now and thanks for the kind words, how stupid i was i have worked on loads of air rifles for many years and can take most apart with me eyes shut.
let me explain what happened, just bought a webley radier as a non working gun , no gauge to say if its got any air in so i cock the hammer and fire many times no air comeing out the valve threw the transfer port, conect a pump to it to try and put some air in and it will not let any in, so now iam thinking its a bloked inlet valve and its empty.
So next thing undo the valve and cure the problem, cant undo the bolts so drill out the three bolts and will have to rethread or may clear with a stud extractor(should of known by now that there was air inside stopping me from undoing them) Next the biggest BANG i have ever herd and the valve went right up inside my leg from the knee to the groin, i have been very very lucky just a fraction more and the amblance men said they would not of been able to do anything it was that close to the artery, it would of been goodnight JJJJJJ.
So what had happened was that someone had well and trully over filled with air so that on fireing the pressure was to much for the hammer to let any out. any other time i would of taken the hammer out and knocked the valve with a hammer and punch( i have done this many times) just a laps on my part nerly cost me my life, so if anything i hope people will read this and it may just stop someone doing the same thing.
Thanks again
JJJJJJ
