I posted pics of the sheet metal ones they are now shipping instead of cast Iron ones. Got the steel from a trailer fab shop he gave me some cut offs from the thickest largest rectangular tubing he had its 2x4x6 with the wall about 3/16 thick. Seems better than using 18 gauge sheet that just twists and is poorly tack welded

The single hole is to mount lathe. the side with two holes will be bolted to bench with a 1/4 thick steel backer plate behind the table top and shimmed level to each other.

I need some guidence [linked image] [linked image] [linked image]

They'll be fine.

Main thing is to make sure you're not twisting the bed out of alignment, so you may need to shim under one of the feet after you get it set up. I have mine mounted on thinner wall (than yours) rectangular tubing on top of a bench.

Homebrew Riser 2nd Version

August 15 2009, 10:08 PM

I started to think about the wooden top of the metal desk. It was bowed and when I tried to level the two blocks in the same plane it was looking like an exercise in frustration. Since the 2 x4 x 3/16 Tube was as true as I could see with the best straight edge I have. I decided to make the riser in one long plane as least the twist from trying to shim two blocks will be gone. I will let it set overnight on top of the tube.

In the morning I was planning on bolting the headstock firmly down and just barely snugging down the tail stock. Is this the best to do without a machinist's level???
