- Steve Austin could be finished with WWE. Austin and WWE have been in negotiations for a new contract for the past few weeks. Talks took an ugly turn last week when Vince McMahon and Steve Austin's new lawyer disagreed about whether WWE should have control over Austin's outside projects.
Obviously Steve Austin did not appear on RAW this past Monday and it is unknown when, or if, he will be back.
- Steve Austin apparently met with Vince McMahon last night in San Antonio prior to the Smackdown taping. The problem between the two remains that WWE wants to keep control of the "Stone Cold" name as well as Steve Austin's outside projects. Austin and his lawyer want WWE and Austin's other projects to be completely separate. WWE seems to want to do this so they continue to make money off of Austin if he hits it big in movies or something else. As reported, this disagreement has become serious enough that some feel Austin's career is in question.
The Rock has become a big movie star but is now claiming that he has the rights to the name "The Rock" which will make his next WWE contract negotiation very interesting.
- Many backstage are supporting Steve Austin in his latest battle with WWE over control of outside projects. Most believe that WWE goes overboard in terms of trying to own everything related to their wrestlers and are glad somebody is standing up to Vince McMahon.
Austin's WWE future is in question at this point. He could be yet another main event level loss for the company. Austin, despite not wrestling, generates a lot of money from merchandise sales and is one of WWE's biggest names.
