Latin Heat
By SCOOP MALINOWSKI

Status: WWE Champion

Nicknames: “Ewis. Chilaquil— My mom called me that and it’s a Mexican dish of enchiladas. It’s pretty spicy. My uncles gave me that name because I was such a pain in the butt like a spicy food that won’t go away [laughs]. It’s a Mexican expression.”

Ht: 5-9
Wt: 210
Birth date: October 9, 1967
Place of birth: El Paso, Texas

Childhood heroes: “My dad, Salvador. As far as superheroes, I liked Tarzan and Spiderman.”

Hobbies: “Big moviegoer when I’m home. Love to go to the gym. If I get a chance to, I like to go out and Jet Ski. Time with family. I also play basketball. I’m not too much of an exciting person.”

Favorite movies: “Gladiator, Scarface, Braveheart.”

Musical tastes: “I like ‘em all. I like Santana a lot. Also a big Rush fan. And I like Creed now, too.”

Favorite TV shows: “‘American Chopper’ and ‘Friends.’”

First job: “Church’s Fried Chicken . . . I take that back. Helped sell wrestling merchandise at wrestling events in Florida (age 16).” First car: “1981 blue Chevy Monte Carlo.”

Childhood dream: “I wanted to be a wrestler since I could remember. I’m a second-generation wrestler. I grew up watching my dad and brothers wrestle. And that’s all I ever wanted to do. That, or be Tarzan [laughs].”

Favorite meal: “Chilaquiles with eggs. It’s a good Mexican breakfast.”

Most painful moment: “(Laughs) Ooooofff, I’ve had a lot! I think when I dislocated my elbow. My first match in WWE (in Detroit in 2000). I did a ‘Frog Splash’ which is my finishing move. I go up to the third rope and jump off and I splash the guy laying down. As I hit, my elbow dislocated. Popped out of the socket. And also when I tore my pec muscle wrestling Dean Malenko in WCW.”

Worst injury: “I would have to say my torn pec. I was out for 4 1/2 months.”

Early wrestling memory: “They did an homage to my dad (“Gory” Guerrero) in Mexico City (1987). And that’s where they inducted him into the Hall of Fame. They honored him that night. And all my family was on the card. All my brothers wrestled. And we all wrestled on that card. A very special moment in my life.”

Funny wrestling memory: “There’s been a lot. The first thing that comes to my mind was — I don’t want to name his name. It’s embarrassing, so I won’t say his name. I saw somebody actually poop in his pants during a match. I won’t say who that was. It wasn’t me!”

Favorite wrestlers to watch: “I always enjoyed watching my family, of course. I’ve always been a big Ric Flair fan. I loved Rock. Austin. I’m a big Chris Benoit fan. And Triple H — I love his psychology.”

People qualities most admired: “I always look at their heart. You know a good person when they’re real. Humility. I think that’s a quality that I look for in a person. Which is what I strive for in life.”

Family: Wife, Vickie; daughters, Shaul, Sherilyn, Kaylie; two dogs, Cassie, Frijolito (my little bean).
