So, why does the Bonar system work? Is it possible that it hides a swing flaw that some golfers are never able to overcome?
As for myself, I have and always had that dreaded over the top swing flaw with club face open at impact. I feel myself consciously doing it but never could quite fully correct it. I am starting to think it may be more of a body or muscle makeup of the swinger than just a bad swing habit. What the Bonar takeaway method does for me is that the clubface now naturally closes at impact. I also have a very steep swing. According to Bonar, this is ok so long as you hit the DOWN on the ball.
I am not a very good player and would like to hear some opinions on this.
that if I open the clubface going back cupping my wrist, I am more inclined to close it upon impact instead of holding it open. I hit some very solid shots now since I have switched. I work on nothing but cupping the left wrist for a RHP on the way back. Good luck.
I think this method works mainly because it gives you something non-technical to think about. No "shift your weight here" or "keep your head down" or other TIPS that screw you up. The same as Harvey Penicks "clip the tee". You think about hitting the little home run and you hit a great shot. You think about clipping the grass or the tee, you hit a great shot. You think about trying to hit the ball 280 yards and making sure you keep your left arm straight and your swing on plane, your ball flies into the trees. Just my humble opinion of course. By the way, anybody here???
Great post. I'm kinda surprised it works so well. But for the first time ever, I'm not wondering where my right elbow is and if my hips are turning first.
